Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura has argued that the census exercise will to a great extent shape the nation's political landscape ahead of the 2022 general elections.

This comes only hours before the official start of the exercise, which the lawmaker says will soon be turned into a tribal affair and political weapon once the results are out.

Speaking on Saturday, Mwaura claimed that politicians, especially those eyeing the presidency, will be using the tribal statistics to approach the race, basing on tribal numbers.

"Our mode of politics is tribal, people are just keen on knowing which community is the biggest (Siasa zetu ni za kikabila na watu wanataka kujua kabila gani ndio kubwa)," he said.

He made the remarks during a phone interview on Radio Jambo's Mazungumzo Waziwazi show, where he added that the outcome will also completely disrupt the political setting.

According to him, it's likely that the kingpin whose community emerges the leading will take over as the most powerful political leader, automatically becoming the most sought after.

And judging by the narrative that Luhyas are multiplying by the day, he said, it's very likely that Amani National Congress (ANC) will assume the position after the census results are out.

"In the instance that Luhyas emerge the leading and have overtaken Kikuyus, then Mudavadi will be the most powerful political leader (Ikijulikana eti Waluhya ndio wengi na wamepita wakikuyu itakua Mudavadi ndio mwanasiasa mwenye nguvu zaidi)," he added.
