The days when leaving your house in the morning and coming back at night with everything intact were underrated, have started fading away.
Nowadays, incidents of mugging continue to be on the rise in Nairobi, to a point where walking around some parts of Nairobi has become a risky affair, especially during the evening towards night hours.
This is why the city under the sun is sometimes dubbed 'Nairobbery'.
That said, there are places you need to avoid during evening hours if you want to get to your house in peace without losing anything to a stranger.
1. Machakos Country Bus
This is the headquarters of mugging in Nairobi. Here, people steal without any fear.
It's a hot spot simply because it's usually crowded by travellers, who are some sort of 'ready market' for muggers and pickpockets.
They'll steal your luggage and will be nowhere to be found.
2. River Road
The entire River Road is risky and especially the stretch towards the Tea Room.
It's not advisable to walk along these sides, especially during evening hours. Though in an event where you find yourself here during such hours, hold your bag as tight as you can, put your phone away from your hands and walk as fast as you can because a good number of those walking beside you are muggers just waiting for a chance to mug someone.
3. Koja Roundabout
This is where most phones go missing without your knowledge.
When you're around this area, it's advisable to keep those expensive phones of yours out of their reach.
4. Globe Roundabout
This is a notorious place where people get mugged, snatched and car parts get stolen even in broad daylight.
So, if this can happen during the day, who knows what can happen during the night? Don't risk hanging around this place at night.
5. Ambassadeur
Since it's a stage, muggers and pickpockets are always ready to snatch. Beware!
