At the age of 28, Nicholas Langat, a former Recce Squad officer attached to President Uhuru, has tasted the sweet and bitter side of life.
Langat, now an alcohol addict, crushes stones at a local quarry in Kericho to earn little cash to fund his drink spree.
The officer lost his job after he failed to return to work in 2016 after he asked for permission to take care of his late wife who was suffering from throat cancer.
The wife died the same year living him a depressed man.
Since the demise of his wife, whose identity he didn’t reveal, life has never been the same again.
It remains unclear why he has never reported back to work after only given a suspension letter that was sent to Ainamoi Police Station in Kericho County.
He claims that his suspension indicates that he had not been officially dismissed from his job.
It was during this time that he started drinking too much liquor before he ended up being addicted to the same.
He has now admitted that alcohol messed up his bright future and now he has nowhere to run to.
“I have gone through hell due to drinking and I feel that I’m tired of this life,” he told the Daily Nation.
