The attempt was however, shot down by the opposition’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) which is led by Raila, which compelled him to sacrifice his ambition for current county chief Cornel Rasanga.

When he shifted his attention to the senatorial race, he still faced opposition from the same quarters, this time demanding that he leaves it to Senator James Orengo.

He then opted for the Bondo parliamentary seat which he lost the race to Elisha Gideon Ochanda, but still made it to parliament as an ODM nominee.

A similar  thing happened to his sister Ruth Odinga who claimed to have won the Kisumu Gubernatorial race ODM ticket, only for the party to award the ticket to her challenger Jackton Ranguma.

She had to settle for the Deputy Governor’s seat in a forced political agreement, which saw her support current governor Anyang’ Nyong’o’s bid to unseat her boss in 2017.

Both Rasanga and Orengo proceeded to comfortably defend their seats in the concluded August 8 polls, with another duel between Oburu and Ochanda again ending in Ochanda’s favor.
