Details have emerged on a meeting by President Uhuru Kenyatta, his deputy William Ruto and NASA’s Raila Odinga.
Kenyans were fed with photos of the three leaders at the Deputy President’s official home in Karen.
The meeting came a day after Uhuru left tongues wagging on Thursday when he made a remark in vernacular at Nyeri saying his 2022 choice will shock people.
This was interpreted to mean that he no longer commits to supporting his deputy for the 2022 presidential race.
Also, during the requiem mass for Jane Kiano where the three attended, Raila launched a scathing attack against Ruto, albeit thinly-veiled, when he told off those calling him and Uhuru sons of dynasties.
“Jomo Kenyatta was a son of a pauper. He struggled [and] was detained by the colonialists for all those years. Because of that, you cannot say Uhuru is part of a dynasty. Odinga, son of Raila, was just a pauper. You would say he was just a hustler. You cannot, therefore, say that Raila is a product of a dynasty,” Raila said.
A source close to the top leaders said Ruto requested ‘his boss’ to a lunch at his residence which the ‘boss’ accepted.
After around 30 minutes at the Deputy President’s residence, Uhuru asked that he invites Raila.
“Uhuru is keen to portray a united front as he tackles his second term. That is why he asked that he invites Raila. You will see more lunches at Raila’s, Uhuru’s and other places where more leaders will feature,” the source said.
