In a tweet, the KTN news anchor revealed how she spent 7,000 shillings on just a few items, highlighting how the prices of basic commodities have gone through the roof.

With 7000 shillings,  she was just able to buy two packets of rice, two packets of wheat flour, cooking oil and green grams.

She compared Kenya to an abusive relationship.

"Haki I went shopping... Tu rice tuwili,  tu unga twa chapo mbili, tu maharagwe, tu ndengu na mafuta ya kupika.... Ati bill ni 7k.....yaaani this Kenya is an abusive relationship...." her tweet read.

Her tweet is consistent with the growing concern of Kenyans over the rising cost of living.

Kenyans have to dig deeper into their pockets in order to acquire basic commodities.

The Uhuru-led Jubilee administration has come under increasing pressure to rein in the sky-rocketing prices.

In the build up to the hotly contested 2013 elections, the then Jubilee candidates, pledged to ensure that prices of basic goods are contained.

That promise appears to have not been fulfilled as Kenyans continue to feel the pinch of rising inflation.

Prices in Kenya are largely governed by market forces.
