Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati is among vocal and vibrant opposition lawmakers in Nairobi county.
Arati who is serving his second term in office is a close ally and confidant of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
The vocal ODM MP is a household name when it comes to city politics and is also among those to watch for in the 2022 succession politics.
Before joining University, the MP says that he used to hawk and sale 'sukuma wiki' at Marikiti, Kawangware, Gikomba, Kibera and Waginge markets.
But who is Simba Arati?
1. Birth
Simba Arati was born in 1981, raised and schooled in Gucha, Kisii County.
2. Schooling
In 1994, the MP did his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and proceeded to Nyamacha secondary school for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
Arati was however expelled from Nyamacha secondary school forcing him to go to the neighboring Suneka High school where he sat for KCSE in 1998.
3. Graduate
In 2003, the MP graduated with a Diploma in Tourism Management from the Kenya Polytechnic (now Technical University of Kenya).
In 2004, Arati enrolled for Bachelor’s Degree in International Business Management at the Guangzhou University in China.
In 2015, he graduated with a Master’s Degree in International Relations from the Oginga Odinga University.
4. Politics
Arati ventured into politics in 2007, unsuccessfully contesting for the Nairobi councilor position.
In 2010, the ODM MP also lost bid for the Nairobi Mayor seat.
He lost the mayoral election to George Aladwa (now Makadara MP).
In 2013, Arati contested for the Dagorreti North MP seat wining it on ODM ticket.
In 2017, Arati successfully defended his seat on ODM ticket.
5. Family
The MP is married to a Chinese woman and they are blessed with three children.

The MP likes spending his free time with his family and friends.
He is also a staunch Christian
7. Political ambitions
Arati says that he has much to do in terms of service delivery for Dagorreti North residents for now.
There are however claims that he could contest for the Nairobi senate or governor seat in 2022.
Arati is among top city politicians who will shape the 2022 succession politics.
