ODM treasurer Timothy Bosire says President Uhuru Kenyatta has noticed the essence of fighting vices which have dragged the nation behind since Independence in 1963.
Recalling his difficult moments with the government in 2016 when he was arrested for leasing anti-Uhuru campaigns, Bosire said the president has since discovered his misdeeds and is determined to fix the loopholes.
The former Kitutu Masaba MP who was addressing mourners on Friday at North Mugirango jokingly said the president has enjoyed new lease of life and never hesitates to call Raila Odinga 'Baba'.
"We fought against impunity orchestrated by Jubilee and I was even arrested. Things went out of control and we had to pick whistles and shout to the entire world that something was wrong then.
"Thanks to God, Uhuru discovered that he had lost track thus the essence of handshake. I am happy that he nowdays sings 'Happy Birthday Baba'. I mobilised my colleagues and we backed his leadership," he said in mother tongue.
Mr Bosire, who had been at loggerheads with Jubilee administration for long, was referring to January incident where Uhuru was one of the guests in Mr Odinga's birthday at the coast.
Throughout his political career, Mr Bosire has been a pointsman for Odinga in the greater Gusii region and is warming up to succeed Governor John Nyagarama in 2022.
During the funeral, Bosire challenged Gusii leaders under the leadership of North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko to unite and fight for the community's interests.
"I know you're courageous. Make use of the handshake and push for development in Gusii region. This is the opportune time to advance such requests," he said.
