President Uhuru Kenyatta has sent a strong message to Kenyans noting that no one can ascend to power in Kenya through "the backdoor".
Speaking during the launch of Kenya’s 2nd Africa Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) Country Review Report at State House, Nairobi on Friday, Uhuru stated that elections are the only avenues that take one to power.
He reiterated that Kenya is a country that thrives in peace and in people from different cultures who embrace one another.
He also maintained that Kenya will never be set 'ablaze' by political differences among leaders.
"Elections are the only right way to contest for political power. They must never be used as a way to pull the country apart," stated President Uhuru.
He further warned that anyone who perpetuates falsehoods with the aim of disrupting the unity the country is enjoying will be dealt with firmly.
The launch of the report focuses on leadership, governance and peaceful co-existence.
Kenya becomes the first APRM member to undertake the second cycle review.
The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) is a mutually agreed upon model of governance.
The African Union member states voluntarily ascended to it as a self-monitoring mechanism after its adoption in 2003.
