Sometimes fate can decide to just be hard on you for no apparent reason especially when it strikes on you when you are already old, weak and spent.
Mwaniki Mwangi, a man from Ruaka has not only witnessed this but is currently living on the harsh side of fate, something which is now threatening to take away the only thing he owns under this sun, life.
Mwangi whose right leg is now rotting, found himself in the current predicament after he was knocked down by a hit-and-run vehicle as he was going home to his rented house five months ago.
According to Yonah Njoki who has been helping Mwangi since she came to know him two months ago, the man spent three months at Kiambu Level Four Hospital before he was discharged.
He, however, found his rented house closed by the landlord due to rent arrears accrued while still at the hospital.

"I found the old man sleeping at a certain street within Ruaka town and out of curiosity, I asked him what the problem was. What he narrated left me in tears because there is no explanation that can make me understand why such an old man for whatever reason should be suffering on the streets while people watch," Njoki said on Wednesday.
Njoki says since then, she has always ensured that the man has breakfast, lunch and supper at her cost.
Unfortunately, Njoki says she has tried all ways and means to help the man to no avail including searching for his relatives.
"As we talk, the only thing I provide for him is food because I have no place where I can accommodate him. I have posted his photos on Facebook and WhatsApp groups asking for well-wisher to come to the old man's rescue but help has not been forthcoming," adds Njoki.

Njoki, however, appreciates that one Festus Matasha came to assist the man on Saturday after she posted the man's photos on the 'RUAKA-livin it n lovin it' Facebook group.
Njoki is now worried that the impending October rains will find the old man on the streets which can only serve to worsen his situation.
You can reach Njoki who says that the man needs immediate medical assistance, via her number, 0726 640 012.
