A Jubilee Member of Parliament has found fault in President Uhuru Kenyatta after he relieved duties Sports, Culture and Heritage Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa.
The youthful Minister was shown the door on Friday morning a day after Uhuru threatened to crack the whip on senior government officials implicated in corruption.
Mumias East legislator Benjamin Washiali noted although some controversies have rocked the Sports ministry and left the reputation on the CS in charge temporary tainted, it was too harsh for the President to dismiss Echesa.
Washiali, who is also the National Assembly Majority Chief Whip, observed Uhuru had also experienced some bad days in office and, therefore, should have exercised little patience on the 36-year-old Minister.
“But we cannot despise him because of a few issues surrounding his life. Even those who are sacking have a lot of stains in their lifestyles known to Kenyans,” he told Daily Nation.
Washiali spoke during a funeral in Matungu, Kakamega County on Saturday that was also attended by various local leaders including the disgraced CS.
On his part, Echesa said although he was not informed why he was fired, he was satisfied by the Uhuru's action.
"It’s the prerogative of the President to reorganise his Cabinet the way he wants. Constitutionally, the President has the mandate and power to hire and fire," said the former ODM youth leader.
