This is after the 14-day notice that was issued by the government through the National Land Commission (NLC) on December 11, 2018, to those claiming ownership of the ADC Kiswani Complex, expired on Christmas.

The notice published in local dailies stated that Malindi ADC land is public land and that all parties who claimed to own parcel(s) of land in the land either legally or illegally to submit their documents to the NLC offices in 14 days, beyond which the demolition process would take effect.

Earlier, Sabaki residents living adjacent to the 900-acre land demonstrated alleging that unknown people were taking over the land with no explanation from the government, adding that the land was being grabbed by private developers.

Speaking to the press while the demolition process was ongoing, Manager ADC Kiswani Complex Murasi Mulupi said that the eviction operation would go on.

He said the operation will not spare anyone or anything encroaching the public land whether their documents are genuine or not for they are not recognised by the government.

“While I was walking around here the other day, I was shocked to find someone still fencing a portion despite the notice that was issued last month. We can’t sit back and watch this,” said Mulupi on Thursday.

According to Mulupi, NLC previously stated that nothing non-governmental should go on in the 900-acre land.

"We are here to effect the order. Since this land was meant for agricultural purposes, grass for cattle will be planted here once it’s all cleared.”
