Locals of Bonyachani area in Nyamira county woke up in a rude shock following the death of a Deputy Principal at Kianginda Secondary school.
Locals said the deceased Mr Joel Metobo hanged himself at his bedroom on Friday night.
"Metobo didn't show any sign of trouble. I saw him on Friday evening only to be called this morning that he is no more," said a local James Magero.
Mr Magero described the deceased as a hard working person whose death is a blow to the local community.
"He has always been supportive to locals and his family. His death has dealt us a big blow," he noted.
Nyamira County commissioner Amos Mariba said cases of suicide are at the peak in Nyamira county.
"It is shocking to everyone because even teachers are ending their lives. It is not clear why he hanged himself," he said.
The commissioner said police officers are at the scene to collect the body.
He appealed to locals to stop ending their lives prematurely.
"Residents should seek guidance from elders and spiritual leaders anytime they are faced with difficulties," he noted.
