A middle aged man descended on his helpless wife with kicks and blows after Sh500 went missing from his wallet.
This happened in Keroka township, Nyamira County on Wednesday morning.
Witnesses said Risper Nyaboke was inside their rental house when her husband Elijah Oburu stormed the house and demanded for his money.
"Oburu operates as a bodaboda rider. He left his house at 6 am only to return back at 9 am and asked his wife to produce the money which was missing in his wallet," said Diana Mogaka.
Ms Diana said Nyaboke's explanation fell on deaf ears because Oburu didn't want to hear anything apart from getting his money back.
"He attacked her using a wooden block calling her a thief. It took the intervention of members of the public to rescue the helplessly woman," she noted.
Area administrator Kennedy Ndege said he was notified about the incident after the man had escaped.
"The victim was taken to a local dispensary for treatment but, the suspect has gone into hiding," he said.
Mr Ndege said cases of violence are at the peak in the area.
