Dennis Oliech's goal in Gor's win over Egyptian giants Zamalek was special, as it came exactly 21 years since Oliech's elder brother; Steve Okumu scored a similar goal.
It was at the same venue in 1998 when Gor beat Zamalek 1 - 0 in a CAF Confederation Cup, thanks to the lone goal scored by the late Okumu.
And as Dennis Oliech replaced the injured and scorer Nicholas Kipkurui on the 67th minute, he had one thing in mind; to honour his brother's memory in style.
When the moment came, Oliech did not hesitate and rounded defenders plus the goalkeeper, before burying the ball into the net for Gor's fourth goal that ensured the home team collected maximum points.
"I dedicate this goal to my late brother. I knew I would come on and score and I wanted to celebrate in the exact same way he did. I am happy that we won. It is not about me but my team and I am pleased with the result. This is behind us now and we focus on the next game," said Oliech.
The win sends K'Ogalo to the top of Group D with 3 points same with Algeria's Na Hussein who narrowly edged 2-1 past Petro de Luanda at Stade du 5 Juillet 1962 in Algiers last night.
Gor Mahia head coach Hassan Oktay was a happy man and said that he expected the victory after watching Zamalek's previous match videos and worked his players on their tactical approach.
“I was expecting this win because we did some good homework on Zamalek and watched their game against Pyramids and two other teams. We knew the way they play and tactically we were ready for them. I knew we could get something and I am happy with the players," said Oktay.
Zamalek coach Christian Gross blamed his players for the defensive lapse that saw his surrender their lead to be on the receiving end of a 4 - 2 thumping.
He Lamented that despite his team taking an early lead its defence line could not hold as they allowed easy and strange goals.
"The Players made many bizarre mistakes during the game, which was the main reason for our defeat," - noted Swiss coach Gross
