Migori County Governor Okoth Obado confessed to detectives that he knew slain Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.
Otieno and Nation journalist Barrack Oduor were abducted on September 3 before her body was found dumped in a thicket in Homa Bay the following day.
Oduor, who jumped off the car they had been bundled into, placed Governor Obado’s PA Michael Oyamo at the centre of the incident.
On Tuesday, September 11, Obado drove to the Nyanza regional DCI offices in his white Toyota Land Cruiser where he spent up to seven hours being grilled.
Though his lawyer insisted that his client had not been arrested, he left the DCI offices in police cars contrary to his arrival.
A source said the county boss confessed having been ‘close’ to the late student but failed to categorically state what type of relationship they had.
He was also put to task on how often they talked with Sharon, the last time they talked and what they were talking about.
According to investigators, Obado was made aware that they suspect the death had been linked to his relationship with the girl.
He also underwent a DNA test to match with the late Sharon’s foetus.
