Jerusalem Church of Christ is found in Nairobi’s Kawangware 56 area.
The church by self-proclaimed prophetess Mary Akatsa or Mary Sinaida or Mummy is known for its strictness on worshipers.
At Jerusalem Church, men, women and children don’t sit together or mingle during worship.
Men, women and children have their specific sitting areas and are not allowed to contact during the service.
The case is different compared to other churches where men, women and children interact and mingle during church sermons.
According to prophetess Akatsa, it is not right for men, women and children to sit together during church sermons.
She says it is easy for men and women to commit sin when they are sitting together in church.
“I don’t tolerate men, women and children sitting together in church because it gives the devil time to tempt them,” she says.
Akatsa says that cases of men and women found in compromised positions while in church have been reported elsewhere and that her church does not tolerate it.
“Women must sit on their own, men on their own and children on their own as they listen to the teachings,” she said.
Akatsa says that even in the Bible men, women and children never sat together.
The same applies when entering the church premises.
Often men will enter first, followed by children and later women.
Akatsa dismisses claims of being strict with her followers, adding that she teaches what the Bible says.
