Opposition leader Raila Odinga seems to be taking his sweet time to endorse another person to take over as the new Luo Nyanza political kingpin.
Though openly on his way out due to his growing age, the former Premier has kept silent on who he would like to steer the region and realize his dream for his people.
This is most likely as a result of his own political dreams, and is aware that endorsing another person will technically mark the end of his career.
Being yet to realize his longtime presidential bid, Odinga whose most support emerges from the region wants to be sure on whether or not he stands a chance before passing the vote basket to another person.
Also, with politics being a selfish game where everyone wants everything for themselves, the former Premier could be awaiting one of his children or relatives to take over the mantle.
This way, he will also indirectly benefit and will have it easier achieving his goals through them.He will as well have it easier realizing the implementation of his policies through them.
Odinga is aware that endorsing a different person will only bring to power a variant person whom they do not share ideologies with and who could end up steering the region in a direction he (Raila) would not like.
Also, Odinga who has locked off his bedrock from rival political groups is unwilling to let it go due to the influence he enjoys from the Luo community.
Basing on the fact that at over 70 years of age he can still call them out in millions during elections and in thousands during political rallies, he is finding it hard to let go of the pleasure that comes with having a large backing.
He cannot imagine attending events without seeing thousands of his supporters present and passing by without people lining up along the roadside to cheer him.
To keep the fire burning and the support intact, he remains unwilling to let another person take over.
