According to documents supplied to Obado's lawyer by the prosecution, 24 witnesses will give evidence against the governor along with his two co-accused persons Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero.

On Friday last week during Obado's bail hearing, the governor's lawyer Cliff Ombeta told the court that they have received 24 witness statements and other evidence material to be used in the trial.

The prosecution confirmed to the presiding Judge Jessie Lessit that it has supplied all statements and documentary evidence to the accused-persons lawyers and is ready for trial.

Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji through prosecution lead counsel Jacob Ondari maintained that he has a strong case that could see Obado and his to co-accused (Oyamo and Obiero) handed a death sentence.

"We will be seeking to prove and link the Governor to the two murder charges whose punishment is the death penalty," Ondari said in court.

Obado, Oyamo, and Obiero are charged with the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno and her unborn baby.

The trio has, however, pleaded not guilty to the murder charges.

They are remanded at the Nairobi Industrial Area prison pending their bail ruling on October 24.

The DPP is, however, opposing the accused persons release on bail on grounds that they could interfere with witnesses and that they are a flight risk.

The  DPP further argues that the murder charges against Obado and his two co-accused are serious hence denial of bail.
