A 19-year-old man has been arrested in Kitui for allegedly hacking his 28-year-old lover to death.
The suspect identified as John Mutinda attacked his lover, Shiro Murimi on Tuesday night at Katithini village with a panga killing her on the spot.
The incident was confirmed by Kitui Central Sub-county police commander Cesily Gatwiri who said that the man who committed the act has been arrested.
She told this writer on the phone that the police who arrived at the scene found the lifeless body of the girl on the bed covered with blood.
"At around 1.30am I was notified of the incident that one John Mutinda had hacked his wife to death with a panga. Police rushed to the scene took thebody and arrestedthe man," said Gatwiri.
She said that the police recovered the murder weapon at the scene.
The police boss said that until now no one knows that drove the young man to take the life of his lover. She confirmed that investigations into the incident have commenced.
"We have begun investigations on the incident and we won't relent until we get to the root of the matter," she noted.
The suspect is held at Kitui police station awaiting arraignment in court.
