Gor Mahia suffered their first defeat of the CAF Confederations competition on Sunday, going down 2-1 against Rayon Sports of Rwanda.
Rayon drew first blood in the first minutes of the first half, before Gor answered before the half-time break.
They regained their lead in the second half, and Gor could not plough their way back, succumbing to their first defeat.
The team could have sealed qualification with a win against the visitors, who held them to a 2-2 draw in the first leg played in Rwanda.
USM Alger, Gor’s main rivals, suffered defeat as well in the hands of Tanzania’s Yanga, but matters are still complicated for Gor.
The team, however, has a chance of advancing to the quarters but must beat or draw with USM Algiers in Algeria and pray that Yanga beat Rayon Sport.
Here are the standings going into the last round of matches;
1. Gor Mahia (8pts)
2. USM Alger (8pts)
3. Rayon Sports (6pts)
4. Young Africans (4pts)
Fans across the country were not happy with the match, with some accusing KPL of not helping Gor in the tournament.
They have accused KPL of congesting Gor’s schedule, leading to fatigue.
