Speaking on Saturday, the Senator urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to order for the arrest of government officials implicated in graft.

He noted that a continued laxity by the president will worsen the situation, and might see the nation plunge deeper into corruption in the coming days.

Orengo stressed on the need for Uhuru to be more aggressive in realizing his initial vow to wipe out the menace, and personally go for those under him named in such.

"We want to see the big fish being charged. The President should use a more aggressive approach to ensure those stealing taxpayers’ money are arrested and prosecuted. At least it will act as an example to their juniors not to try stealing public funds," he was quoted by the Nation.

The opposition lawmaker spoke during a fundraiser at Wakula Mixed Secondary School in Mfangano Island, Homa Bay County.

The Senior Counsel noted that if not addressed as early as now, then,  the President and the entire nation will not have ample time to combat corruption in the coming days.

He based the argument on the looming referendum, 2022 general elections and the August census.

Consequently, he said, Uhuru will not have the pleasure of seeing his dream of a corruption-free country come true during his tenure.

"President Uhuru Kenyatta has three years left before he leaves office. If he does not act now, the graft will find its root even deeper into government structures because we have a busy schedule ahead of us," he added.
