Deputy President William Ruto seems to be losing his initial political strength as the 2022 general elections draw nearer.

Until March last year, the DP was a determined man whose presidency after President Uhuru Kenyatta's retirement was almost a guarantee.

From winning previously opposition-allied leaders to launching development projects across the country, he came out as a strong man so determined to make it to the top.

He gave an impression of a man ready to develop the country or was probably practising the job, being very sure that he was headed to the throne after the 2022 general elections.

However, his calculations seem to have been disrupted along the way and now appears like a desperate man who has foreseen his defeat but has to win anyway.

Consequently, he has been seeing enemies even where there are none and attacking anyone he believes is doing something likely to sabotage his journey to the Statehouse.

If only committed, he wouldn't see a need to go attacking people who might be of use to him but has been blinded by his slimming chances to an extent that he has become restless and hostile.

He has even grown suspicious of the President, turning him into a punching bag and forgetting that he is the only man who can support him.

This is after he has scared away opposition figures through his insults, especially the group allied to opposition chief Raila Odinga.

His main problem is that the duo seems to have reunited under their 2018 truce and now considers it a possible reunion to throw him out.

Judging by his latest remarks especially the on corruption debate, DP Ruto is no longer the composed man he used to be, but a surviving man who is now trying to ride on sympathy ahead of 2022.

He is no longer bragging how he can beat Raila at any time but is emotionally attacking him for reportedly breaking the Jubilee Party.

This points at a cornered man who is however still pushing himself forward and probably has some goals he badly wants to achieve and only the presidential seat can enable him to do that.
