Kenya has been spotted as one of the notorious countries facilitating university students in the United Kingdom cheat in their academics.
This is after it emerged that students doing their academic papers in the United Kingdom have their work done by Kenyans at a fee.
Lecturers in the UK now claim Kenya is a country with many unemployed people who have mastered good English, written and spoken.
Due to the high unemployment rate and good skills in writing, Kenyans are finding it easier to write academic papers for UK students and make money at the comfort of their home.
Dr Thomas Lancaster, a senior fellow at Imperial College, London, revealed every apartment block in Kenya has at least one writer.
“Kenya is the hotbed where the writing happens. There is high unemployment and a job working from home is coveted. They have good English and low overheads.
“There are thousands of people in Kenya whose job is to write essays for cheating students. There are several writers in every apartment block,” Dr Thomas Lancaster as reported by the Nation.
It was revealed that Kenyans are helping UK students cheat in their assignments, research proposals, masters' dissertations as well as PhD research works.
Sources reveal that the UK is planning to table a motion in Parliament that will ban students from advertising and hiring for the purpose of their academic work.
This motion will be a big blow considering the government of Kenya through the Ministry of ICT, has been investing resources to train Kenyan youth so that they employ themselves through online writing.
Programs like Ajira have seen many youths being trained in online writing. The program has been happening across the country in public and private universities where students have been trained at no cost.
