It is alleged that Damaris Nyaboke, Beatrice Nyabongi and Faith Kerubo tried to block the public from clearing a bushy area along an interior road.

"The three women refused to join other villagers to clear the bush and open up the road and started insulting villagers who turned up to open up the road. The public could not take any more insults, they nabbed the three women and beat them mercilessly," said Andrew Nyandika, a resident.

Nyandika said police officers on patrol rescued the three women from angry members of the public.

Kisii County Commissioner, Godfrey Kigochi said the victims were taken to Nyacheki Hospital for treatment.

"The victims were opposed to the clearing of the bushy area to open up the interior road claiming that the road is not mapped and that the land where the road passes belongs to them," said Kigochi.

He assured that investigations have been launched over the matter warning that locals should not take the law into their hands.
