Nairobi county has not been left out of the succession debate.
With Governor Mike Sonko serving his final term in office, several politicians are said to be eyeing his seat in 2022.
Governor Sonko has been quoted saying that he might not seek re-election in 2022.
Here are politicians likely to give Sonko a run for his money should he seek re-election in the much anticipated general election.
1. Babu Owino
The youthful Embakasi East MP is among vocal city politicians.
The first term Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) MP boasts of large support from Nairobi city dwellers
Babu Owino could be among politicians to give governor Sonko headache in the 2022 polls owing to his rising political fame.
2. Esther Passaris
The Nairobi Women Representative enjoys massive support among women and youth.
Passaris is known for championing human rights and social justice.
She is also known for her Adopt Light project that lit up a section of Nairobi streets.
Passaris could use her close ties with opposition leader Raila Odinga to bid for the Nairobi governor seat in 2022.
3. Johnson Sakaja
The Nairobi Senator is also among vocal youthful politicians in the City.
Sakaja is never afraid of speaking his mind and has often criticised governor Sonko for delaying to pick and appoint his deputy.
Sakaja is likely to use his political experience and influence in city politcs to bid for the governor seat in 2022.
5. Beatrice Elachi
The former nominated Senator is also likely to contest for the Nairobi governor seat in 2022.
The Nairobi County Assembly Speaker has created a political name for herslef and is among vocal female politicians in the city.
6. Ken Okoth
The Kibera MP could also bid for the Nairobi governor seat.
Okoth has been hailed for spearheading development especially education in Kibra.
The second term ODM MP could also bank on his close ties with Raila to bid for the Nairobi governor seat in 2022.
Okoth is currently on treatment for Stage 4 colorectal cancer.
Though the above politicians have not directly hinted on vying for the Nairobi governor seat there is high chances that they could bid for the seat in the 2022 general election.
