An angry mob lynched a police officer on Wednesday during a scuffle between members of the public and Kenyenya police officers over the mysterious death of a matatu conductor who was arrested and tortured by police officers.
Kisii Central OCPD Francis Nguli on Wednesday evening said the officer was lynched by an angry mob who were protesting over the killing of the matatu conductor identified as Onderi.
"The officer was running away towards Kerongorori area when members of the public arrested him and lynched him," he said.
Nguli, however, didn't reveal the rank of the officer.
"More details will be given about the deceased officer once his name is revealed," he said.
He said the body of the officer was taken to Kenyenya sub-county hospital morgue.
The OCPD warned members of the public against taking the law into their hands.
"When there are issues between police officers and members of the public, peaceful means should be used to solve the issues and not to lynch police officers. Investigations are ongoing to get the suspects who lynched the officer to death," he noted.
