Reports emerged on Monday of a mother by the name Immaculate Auma who had to walk all the way from Mbagathi hospital to City Mortuary via Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) police post with her dead baby.
Through the acting Health minister Charles Kerich, City Hall has come out to explain what occasioned the incidence.
Mr Kerich admitted that the lack of a utility vehicle at Mbagathi Hospital, security guards not being vigilant, and poor information flow led to the woman having to walk to the mortuary.
"They have an inefficient customer care desk, non-vigilant security at the gate and a not-so-comprehensive death notification form, and they lack a utility vehicle,” he said during a meeting at the hospital on Monday.
Furthermore, Mr Kerich denied earlier reports that had indicated the baby died in the hospital, claiming hospital reports indicate Ms Auma arrived at around quarter-to-ten Wednesday morning with the baby being pronounced dead on arrival by a paediatric clinical officer.
Mr Kerich said hospital policy required Ms Auma to file a police notification and that that was where the mix up occurred.
However, he said the hospital has taken steps to ensure another similar incident does not happen again.
