Deputy President William Ruto on Monday went ahead with his usual task despite reports that some powerful ministers from Mt Kenya are plotting his assassination.
Three ministers on Monday were grilled at DCI headquarters in Nairobi where they denied plans to eliminate Dr Ruto, who is keen to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Trade and Industrialization CS Peter Munya, Health Minister Sicily Kariuki and ICT boss Joe Mucheru all denied the claims, adding that the DP should clarify.
“The complainant makes a substantive complaint in writing against which we can be able to respond. But we have made it clear that at no time have we met anywhere, not just in La Mada, to kill the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya,” Munya said.
But Dr Ruto, who is yet to issue a statement over the same, hosted Council of Governors, Treasury team, Commission of Revenue Allocation, Controller of Budget and senators where he discussed about revenue allocations to counties.
“This is a matter of great concern to the country. It must be solved within the shortest time possible. Counties need the Division of Revenue Act passed for Senate to pass allocation of revenues to facilitate the transaction of business at the counties,” said Dr. Ruto.
“We have demonstrated our commitment beyond any reasonable doubt that we fully support devolution. We will continue to work together in improving the lives of all Kenyans across the country,” said Dr. Ruto.
Chairman of Council of Governors Wycliffe Oparanya said he was optimistic that the stalemate will soon be unlocked to enable activities at the counties to go on uninterrupted.
“We held a meeting today chaired by the Deputy President; negotiations are ongoing to solve the stalemate. A solution must be found by this Thursday,” said Mr. Oparanya.
The assassination claims are likely to cause another storm in Jubilee given that there are no indications that Dr Ruto shared the matter with President Uhuru Kenyatta before calling DCI team.
The forth minister in the grave allegations, James Macharia, is yet to issue any statement. He's also a close ally of the president. Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho was also dragged to the report.
