The National Government has moved in to retain peace in areas bordering Kisumu and Nandi counties which have been volatile as a result of border rows.
Consequently, the Interior Ministry has announced that it will deploy more police officers to the area as well as put up more police stations to ensure that calm prevails.
This also comes amid rows between the two counties' leadership, with Nandi county claiming that its borders extend to some parts of Muhoroni and Kisumu East sub-counties.
The area has seen an increase in hostility and violence, which has been worsened by cases of cattle rustling, with the situation further getting out of hand in 2018.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i said that the government will ensure that calm prevails at whatever cost.
“The perennial insecurity at the border has to come to an end. Security agencies are going to take stern actions against perpetrators of violence,” Matiang'i was quoted by the Sunday Nation.
Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU) and the Anti-Stock Theft Unit will also be deployed in the area.
Nandi Governor Stephen Sang had secured a court ruling ordering the National Land Commission (NLC) to revisit the two counties' borders.
However, Kisumu county leadership under Governor Anyang Nyongo last week obtained another court order temporarily suspending the process.
