Residents have called on police officers to intensify investigations and apprehend gangs who terrorize traders at Kambu area in Kibwezi, Makueni County.
Led by Kambu market chairlady Esther Kioko, the locals most of who are traders lamented that they are doing their businesses in fear due to the attacks being witnessed.
Kioko said the police should ensure that security is enhanced in the area and the culprits brought to book.
"We have heard attacks in the market every now and then, we are terrified because we don't know if we will be attacked next," Kioko said.
They addressed the press at the market on Thursday.
Kioko claimed that the police have not shown any progress in finding the suspects.
"In January, a guard was killed and the police told us they will investigate and apprehend the perpetrators but until now we haven't seen progress," she said.
"Now, another guard was ruthless killed. Until when are we going to tolerate these attacks," added she.
The traders threatened to demonstrate if their security is not assured.
"The police should hold night patrols to ensure thugs are kept at bay. If the police can't ensure security, we will stop sleeping and find ways to guard ourselves," Kioko said.
This comes barely two days since a watchman was killed by thugs who had attacked a club in the market.
The club's manager sustained serious injuries during the attack.
