Maina Njenga’s Amani Sasa foundation has come out guns blazing over alleged links to the outlawed Mungiki sect.
Through a statement by the foundation’s spokesperson Martha Wanjiru, Amani Sasa dismissed reports that it is linked to a criminal outfit that is recruiting youths and running matatu spots in several towns where they collect ‘protection fee’.“It is unfair for people to link our foundation to the criminal activities of a gang causing trouble among residents of Central Kenya. Ours is a religious group and those making the allegations should cease with immediate effect,” Wanjiru said.
The spokesperson was addressing the media in Nakuru.
Wanjiru said the organization is ready to discipline its members if someone proves that their member is involved in criminal activities.
“Anyone who links the foundation to criminal activities should come out clearly. We know our members and if any is linked to crime we shall cooperate with the government in having them brought to book,” she added.
The spokesperson said Amani Sasa foundation is a religious outfit that cannot condone hypocrisy.
“It is against Christian values to be hypocritical. We started by fighting radicalization among the young generations and we have not lost track on this. We have extended our mission to bring together communities that had antagonism among them due to political reasons,” Wanjiru said.
