Muthama blamed the rampant corruption in the country on the church.

He said church leaders have condoned corruption even in worship places.

"We are complaining of corruption every day in the country. It's sad that religious leaders are silent about the graft, they have tolerated graft even in worship places. Corruption is witnessed more in churches, believe it or not," Muthama said.

Muthama spoke at Tala in Matungulu Sub County on Thursday.

"During offerings, the pastor will emphasize on the color of offering bag going round urging faithful to put their offering there and not anywhere else,", he added.

He said religious leaders get excited whenever someone donates a huge amount of money to the church without caring where the money comes from.

"Someone steals from CDF and comes to offer part of it in church, you tell him he is blessed. Another one stills from NYS which is taxpayers money, you welcome the person patting him on the back. Church leaders are silent about the graft in the country," Muthama said.

Muthama said religious leaders should stand against corruption, not only in the country but also in churches for the society's betterment.

He also blamed the public for corruption due to the notion of asking for 'handouts' from politicians once they cross paths.

"You continue asking for money when you meet them and expect them not to steal your money, leaders are elected to develop their areas and not to tip them," he concluded.
