Residents of Kapker village in Elgeyo Marakwet county have been left in shock following a Sunday night incident where a father allegedly went berserk, shooting six children.
Of the six, three children died on the spot while the three others were rushed to Iten County Referral Hospital where they are undergoing specialized treatment.
Confirming the tragic incident, Marakwet East Sub-County Police boss Vincent Kitili told Citizen Digital in an interview that the man shot the children, all from a single family, while they were asleep at their rural home in Kapker.
Reports further indicate that the man whose identity is yet to be revealed was a suspected and dangerously armed bandit.
After the incident, the suspect is said to have fled the scene. However, police have launched a manhunt in search of the man.
Bodies of the deceased kids have since been transferred to Iten Referral Hospital mortuary as investigations into the incident continue.
