President of Uhuru Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga will tour Kisumu County next month.
The two leaders will preside over the official launch of the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Kisumu County on August 9th, 2018.
They will be hosted by Governor Anyang' Nyong'o.
This was made public by Kisumu County Deputy Governor Dr. Mathews Owili who was standing in for the governor in a UHC meeting in preparation for the grand launch with different health shareholders and health officers at a Kisumu hotel on Tuesday morning.
It will be the first Uhuru and Raila tour in Kisumu, since their famous handshake on March 09, 2018.
Also in attendance was Kisumu County Chief Executive Committee Member (CEC) for Health Ms Rosemary Obara, who said that her ministry is ready for this exercise.
“We are ready for the exercise as we continue working on an effective communication, mobilization and enrolment strategy for effective demand creation,” she said.
Kisumu County has been chosen as one of the pilot counties for the enrollment of Universal Health Coverage in line with the president's big four agenda.
The county is among the top in terms of new HIV/AIDS prevalence in the country.
