National Assembly Minority Chief Whip Junet Mohamed has defended two leading national dailies from onslaught waged by DP William Ruto and his camp.
In a tweet on Sunday, the Suna East MP dismissed Dr Ruto as a 'sour leader' adding that his attacks are unwarranted. He hailed the two papers for 'exposing Dr Ruto'.
According to Mr Mohamed, Ruto's violence narrative on Kibra by-election was dismantled by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday.
While speaking in Sagana, Uhuru maintained that the polls in which ODM's Imran Okoth won, were peaceful compared to previous encounters.
"Nation & Standard exposing the Kibra sour loser. From Sagana, we learn contrary to Ruto’s post-Kibra violence narrative, Pres. Uhuru called a woman supporter from 2007, 2013 and 2017, who told him she really wanted the campaigns to go on. Everything was peaceful. Democracy won," Junet said.
Dr Ruto in recent weeks has been accusing the media of spreading fake news, often arguing that some of the top stories on him are done with an objective of smearing his name.
On Sunday, Dr Ruto accused the press of misinforming the public, arguing that Jubilee party is intact contrary to media feeds.
"Detractors rattled by Jubilee emerging United/strong post-Sagana are, in collabo with usual brown envelope journalists, back to the drawing board to continue their never-ending scheme to stumble us. The words of Matt.18vs6 await you if you succeed in your ungodly mission. Tunawaombea," he said.
State House Secretary for Digital Innovation Dennis Itumbi, a close ally of the DP, on Sunday dismissed headlines by The Standard and Nation.
"Sunday Papers are most times a product of imagination, phantom intrigue & lies on STEROIDS! FAKE NEWS! DP @WilliamsRuto has always been clear on this matter, the boss is H.E. Uhuru, spin all you want. WSR is Deputy Party leader &he is happy with it! Uwongo tupu!Wacheni za ovyo!" he wrote.
The DP has intensified quest to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta, with elections due in the next 35 months. Ruto visited South Rift on Saturday.
