Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Fred Matiang'i has warned drug peddlers and barons, saying their days are numbered.
Matiang'i confirmed that a fresh crackdown on drug lords and their networks will be launched soon at the Coast and other parts of the country.
Speaking at Mkunguni Square in Lamu on Thursday, CS Matiang'i said the operation will target top individuals linked to drug networks.
"We are soon going to mount an operation on drug lords and no one linked to it whether 'big' or 'small' will be spared," he said.
The CS said the government will involve services of top world investigating agencies in the drug operation.
He noted that drug trafficking is rife in the Coastal Counties.
"We are not going to give space to drug traffickers and their networks to continue eroding our society," the Interior CS said.
Matiang'i worried that young people have been lured to drugs and their lives are being destroyed.
He asked leaders to help the government sensitize young people against drugs.
The CS noted that the government is working with the private sector and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to put up rehabilitation centres across the country.
According to statistics by NACADA, the Coast region leads in drug abuse and trafficking cases.
In the recent past, prominent politicians and businessmen have been linked to drug syndicates and networks in the country.
Local leaders at the Coast especially in Mombasa have been calling on the government to address the drugs menace.
The US government is said to be working closely with the Kenyan government to tame drug lords.
