The Kenyan judiciary has found itself on the receiving end after a Malindi court made a ruling that has angered a section of Kenyans online.
This comes after a Malindi court jailed a man for eight years for bribing a police officer with Sh2,000 to secure the release of a drug trafficker.
Malindi Senior Principal Magistrate Silvia Wewa found Joseph Charo Dzombo guilty of the offence.
It is reported that the accused tried to bribe a police officer to secure the release of a drug trafficking suspect who has been identified as Dennis Odhiambo.
In her ruling, the magistrate argued that the accused was trying to abuse the trust bestowed by the people on the public officers who were on duty.
The case has since attracted attention among Kenyans on social media raising questions how the jail term was arrived at.
A number of netizens argued that Kenyans have lost their faith with the Judiciary citing bias rulings.
Moah Malongo argued that it was unfortunate to see that those committing economic crimes involving billions of shillings get bailed out while petty offenders ending up in jail.
"Why Ksh.2000/- 8-year sentence while real thieves of billions are all over enjoying our taxes? They have committed economic crimes to us & yet our courts pamper them with bonds & bails not commensurate with what they have stolen? It's very unfortunate...,"he tweeted.
