With no baggage of 'paying debts', ODM leader Raila Odinga can now focus his energy on the 2022 presidential race if he decides to run following Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka's most recent statement.
While speaking in Machakos on Saturday in an event that was hosted by Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, Kalonzo said that those expecting to be paid back in 2022 for having supported other leaders in the past should forget it.
"In politics, there is no debt. You get what you go for. If you go for nothing, you get nothing," said the former Vice President as quoted by Nation.
Kalonzo's statement comes amid sustained calls by a section of his political lieutenants led by Borabu MP Ben Momanyi, who want him to go for presidency come 2022 with support from his coalition partner in NASA, Raila Odinga whom he has supported twice in the State House journey; in 2013 and 2017.
"Raila should not have any intentions of running again in 2022. He should now back Kalonzo who supported him in 2013 and 2017," said the Borabu lawmaker.
Raila has left his supporters and rivals alike guessing on his next political move, especially after four unsuccessful presidential bids.
But if Kalonzo's statement is anything to go by, the former Prime Minister can now breathe a sigh of relief having been under pressure in the past to support Kalonzo in the State House journey.
