The Kakamega High School student and Mbale High School Principal Kennedy Simon Okoth died on the spot following the Saturday accident.

Confirming the accident, Nakuru Regional Traffic Commander Zero Arome said the two were in a 14-seater matatu that was coming from Nairobi.

According to nation.co.ke, Arome said the matatu they were travelling in collided head on with a truck that was coming from the opposite direction.

He added that 15 other people were rushed to Nakuru Level Five Hospital after they sustained injuries during the accident while the two bodies were moved to Nakuru County Hospital Mortuary.

“We have launched investigations to establish the cause of the accident. Two people died on the spot while 15 sustained various injuries,” said the traffic commander.

The wreckages of the two vehicles were towed to Nakuru Central Police Station for inspection.

The Kenya Secondary Schools Association (KSSHA) Chairman and principal of Machakos Boys High School, Indimuli Kahi described the late Okoth as a hardworking and humble teacher.

Kahi said the late Okoth had travelled to Nairobi to see his children after the annual KSSHA conference that was held in Mombasa ended.

“Mr Okoth’s death is a big blow to the teaching fraternity, we have lost a hardworking teacher. After the Mombasa meeting he travelled to Nairobi on Friday to see his children and on his way back home, his life was cut short by the fatal road accident in Nakuru,” said Mr Kahi as quoted by nation.co.ke.
