Residents of Nyabiosi village in Bomariba Ward, Kisii County, were left in shock after a woman aborted a seven-month-old foetus and kept it under her matrimonial bed.
Confirming the Thursday incident, Bomariba sub-location assistant chief Benjamin Ayuma said the woman identified as Kemunto David, is said to have had a domestic quarrel with her husband before she procured the abortion.
"Kemunto picked a quarrel with her husband David Makori accusing him of being unproductive due to his inability to provide for her. She later threatened to either commit suicide or carry out an abortion," said the assistant chief.
Ayuma said Kemunto committed the crime while the husband was away and later called him to inform him where she had kept the foetus.
"She called her husband and told him to return home and look for the infant under the bed," said Ayuma.
The assistant chief further revealed that upon returning home, Makori found his wife missing.
"Makori checked under the bed only to find the infant wrapped in a paper bag and alerted neighbours," he added.
He noted that police have launched a manhunt for Kerubo who has since gone into hiding.
"Members of the public should report to police once they spot the woman so that she can be arrested," said Ayuma.
