On Saturday during Madaraka Day, the flamboyant governor was on the neck of the seasoned city politician, forcing her to prematurely leave the celebrations.

“I will pick your calls when I am free. I am not your husband that I should be picking your calls the time you want,” Mr Sonko retorted, infuriating the MP who walked out on him as quoted by the Nation.

And on her Twitter account, Karua, who also served as Magistrate and MP for Gichugu, said Mr Sonko should apologise for 'display of misogyny'.

"Totally unacceptable and all women an men of good will should demand an apology from @MikeSonko For this display of misogyny," she argued.

The FIDA Executive Director, Ms Teresa Omondi, said the Inspector General of Police and the Director of Criminal Investigation should take action on Mr Sonko for the “shameful and disrespectful” display.

“It was wrong. He is a public officer and should not engage in such. Unfortunately there is a continuous disregard of Chapter Six by some leaders,” she said.

Sonko has often been at loggerheads with his fellow city politicians. He's reportedly not working closely with a number of MPs. Since 2018 February, he has been running business without a deputy.
