Before the 2017 general elections, the streets of Nairobi knew one mightily team, Sonko Rescue Team, which helped them in getting clean water, cleaning the streets, helping some needy people pay certain bills and lately, it helped in rescuing the Lake Nakuru helicopter crash victims.
However, the Sonko Rescue Team has since never been heard of, or seen carrying out their charity exercises to the residents of Nairobi. According to the team’s CEO, Joab Ogolla, the team is not actively participating it its charity exercises as it only served as a reinforcement for the county during the election period.
The Sonko Rescue Team is currently inactive as the county took over its work. The team is restructuring and streaming their operations and projects. More so, the team’s participants were being vetted early this year to determine those to be absorbed into the county government advertised jobs.
After Sonko Rescue Team withdrew its services, another team, termed “Operation Ngarisha Jiji” came up but suffered a setback within a short time. The operations were then shifted to the Nairobi City County Government.
The team, during its time managed to be recognized and even won the best performing charity organization award in June 2017.
