Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has been elected the new Chief Whip of the Council of Governors.
Kibwana was elected when the executive committee met on Monday and takes over from Governor Mahamud Mohamed Ali of Marsabit County.
He will be charged with the role of ensuring that the governors adhere to the position of the council on important matters affecting governance.
His election comes at a time when a section of Kenyans have requested him to go for the top seat in 2022.
Kibwana was proposed because of the development that he has initiated in Makueni County, which includes; Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
One of the leading voices pushing for a Kibwana presidency is activist Boniface Mwangi.
"It's okay to discuss why Ruto can't be president but it would be best to discuss why #PresidentKibwana or any other alternative presidential candidate. You are making Ruto more popular while your favourite candidate is not so well known. Ignore Ruto, market your candidate," he tweeted.
