Ms Maribe is facing murder charges and is due to return to court in June. There were rumours that the office of DPP had opted to make her a state witness, where she was expected to testify against boyfriend Josephi Irungu but the DPP has since denied.

"The article is inaccurate and states facts which are clearly WRONG! Jacque Maribe is an accused person. One of the accused, Jowie, has made an application seeking review of the decision dismissing his bail application. Hearing on 21st May 2019," DPP said.

But Ms Maribe, who is accused of being part of the team that murdered business lady Monica Kimani, seems to have after all moved on. On Friday, she was pictured with Itumbi at a Nairobi club.

"Pic pale Cahoots Pub, Kindaruma Road," Itumbi posted a photo on his Facebook with Maribe, without giving much details.

There have been reports previously that the two were dating even before Jacque got engaged to Mr Joseph Irungu. However, Itumbi has often dismissed the reports, arguing that their relationship is plutonic.

In an exclusive interview with the Standard, Itumbi denied taking advantage of Maribe. “I work for State House, I do not stand with Jacque because I have a lofty title acquired over time, but because we share something more meaningful and important than a job title – friendship”.

“By the way, last weekend, I told her, as her very supportive father and mother listened, ‘people are saying I am trying to win you back’…”

In her previous responses, Maribe has often dismissed that she's dating Itumbi, adding that there friendship is 'deeper than love'. It is not however clear whether Itumbi has any interests in Maribe or not.

To which Maribe dropped the bombshell, “Tell them, we share a soul. Something deeper than love, a friendship that words can only spell but not explain.”

Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this article erroneously referred to Mr Dennis Itumbi as a former State House official. Corrections have been made to reflect his current position of State House secretary digital in the communications department.
