An 18-year-old maid was on Monday morning arraigned before a Kisii Court for allegedly attempting to kill her employer Edward Okioma by poisoning his food one week ago.
Appearing before Kisii Senior Resident Magistrate Ezekiel Obina on Monday the accused Esther Kangwana pleaded not guilty.
According to the prosecutor, Esther was arrested by operatives on18th after she laced her master's food with rat poison with the intention to kill him that led to her master being admitted at Kisii level six hospital over food poisoning.
“The incident happened at the residence of Elijah Nyangweso on date 17th October whereby the master was served the meal by Esther and after eating he heard severe stomach pains and when taken to hospital. The medical report showed that he had been poisoned with Rat poison” said the Prosecutor Lawrence Mokaya
Narrating the incident, the 60-year-old Elijah Nyangweso said his wife had requested the maid to prepare a meal for him and she allegedly added rat poison to the food which he realized after finishing eating the meal.
Magistrate Ezekiel Obina, however, urged the prosecutor to ensure that the accused maid undergoes a mental check up in a week's time before ruling on the case on 1st of November.
The accused will be remanded at Kisii prisons until the set date.
