A family in Nairobi's Embakasi area is appealing for urgent help from Kenyans to enable their 5-year-old girl treated for a medical condition known as auricular haemangioma.
According to the family, the girl has been struggling with the recurrent head tumour from the time she was born and they cannot afford the money needed for her treatment.
In an interview with Citizen Digital, the family says it has sought treatment at different public and private hospitals but their daughter cannot be treated without first depositing money.
The family says it was referred to the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) but the public hospital claimed the equipment used to perform the surgery had broken down.
"We sought alternatives from private hospitals but the options are too costly for us," the family said.
According to the family, the cost of removing the tumour at Kenyatta hospital is between Sh100, 000 and Sh150,000.
At the Nairobi Hospital, the family says the cost for the same procedure is between Sh200,000 and Sh300,000.
The family is now appealing to Kenyans of goodwill and leaders to help them raise the money required to enable their daughter to get treatment.
Well-wishers can get in touch with the child's mother Diana Wangui Kariuki on 0721870959 or 0722857003.
Haemangioma is a benign (non-cancerous) tumour that is made of blood vessels.
The tumours can occur throughout the body including the skin, muscles, bone and internal organs.
