Nancy Wangui managed to overcome hardships she underwent during her 8-year primary school period to emerge the top across the county.

She sat for the national examination at Faith Junior Academy, an iron sheet-walled school with inadequate learning materials located in Kamukunji estate, an informal settlement on the outskirts of Eldoret town.

Nancy 13, says she knew that she will do well but not to such outstanding level.

“I know of my situation being needy, I got sponsored by school director and God has enabled me. I will continue working hard to support my mum,” said the grateful Nancy who was surrounded by her cheerful mother, teachers among others.

She expects to join her favourite high school, Alliance girls to continue with secondary education and finally become a role model to children that hail in the estate.

Her interest is like cookery and other domestic tasks to keep her busy as well as assisting her single mother  Wairimu selling vegetables in the stall.

“Am happy to see my girl shining, she has elevated my status of being a mother to the celebrity in the Kamukunji estate,” said the girls' mother, Margret Wairimu who appealed for well-wishers’ support to enable Nancy to continue with her education.
