Opposition leader Raila Odinga’s son, Raila Junior, has supported plans by Senator James Orengo to impeach Deputy President William Ruto.
In a tweet on Tuesday, Raila Junior said Orengo has a right to initiate the impeachment even if the ODM party will not support him.
“Senior Counsel James Orengo is within his right to bring a motion of no confidence just like any other Kenyan can do, it doesn't necessarily have to be a position of his party ODM,” said Raila Junior.
His remarks come after Homa Bay Woman Rep Glady Wanga on Tuesday said ODM is not involved in Orengo’s plans.
“I sit at ODM’s NEC and we have not discussed any impeachment (against the Deputy President),” Wanga said.
Orengo on Sunday, while campaigning for the ODM candidate in the Ugenya by-election, said he will institute an impeachment motion against Ruto by invoking article 150 of the constitution.
He accused the DP of being at the centre of every corruption scandal in the country.
“Impeaching a deputy president is easier than any criminal proceeding,” Orengo said.
