He says that the former prime minister is out to attract more popularity to himself using his current relationship with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Weda termed this as the reason behind Raila's many meetings with government officials at his Capitol Hill offices, adding that the opposition chief is seeking to create a perception that he controls some State power.

He argued that the meetings might be a scheme to make Raila appear stronger in the eyes of Kenyans ahead of the 2022 polls.

"Raila knows that power is a perception and is acquired and not given. So he is using this small opportunity to the fullest to bring honour to himself," he said.

Weda was speaking during an interview on KBC's The Big Conversation show on Wednesday morning.

The commentator added that the African Union Infrastructure Development envoy seems to be succeeding in his plan and is already causing jitters among his rivals.

"He has always done it and even at this time seems to be succeeding because though he isn't in government, he is causing discomfort to the likes of Deputy President William Ruto," he added.

The latest meeting came on Monday when the former Prime Minister hosted Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri to discuss payment of sugarcane farmers in Western Kenya.
